Oh my gosh Maker Faire totally ROCKED!
The whole family had a lovely weekend hanging out in San Mateo for Maker Faire!! Ava Blu was my partner in crime and an amazing assistant. She helped kiddos and adults alike, choose their colors and make their Pat-On-The-Back Medallions from my book! And let me tell you she’s quite persuasive and was my best advocate for the book (she’s got some real sales skills! :)
It was really nice for folks to be able to get up close and personal with the book. I received so many lovely compliments on the book (which totally put a smile on my face). And it was really cool for everyone to have a chance to actually make one of the crafts from the book.
And let me tell you there were some pretty crafty people attending Maker Faire! Some of the extra embelishements and add-on folks did to their badges were pretty cool.
I just loved how people took the directions I gave them and ran with it. They repurposed, personalized and added to their badges to truly make them their own. It was really cool to see and watch. Folks came up with things I hadn’t even thought of. Some of my favorite add-ons were the dragon wings and the birthday candles!
I finished off the show by being awarded a ribbon for Best in Class!!! How cool is that!? I was shocked and delighted to find out that I actually had won something. I didn’t even know that they were giving out awards. It was truly a great way to finish out the day :)
I’m super excited to have been accepted into Maker Faire this year!! I attend last year on a field trip with Ava Blu’s First Grade class and just knew that I need to be one of the Makers.
I’ll be there teaching you how to craft Pat-On-The-Back Medallions as well as selling my book, Just Us Girls, along with coordinating craft kits. I’m hoping to add a bit of feminine flair to a super cool event full of robotics, tech-gadgets, tinkers and upcycle burning-manesque style crafts.
The only bummer is that I won’t be able to attend the National Stationery Show and Surtex this year because it fall on the same weekend. But I decided to shake things up a bit and try something new. I totally looking forward to it and think it will be a great new experience for me.
So if you are in the Bay Area come by and check it out. It will be at the San Mateo Event Center the weekend of May 17 & 18th. Grab your ticket HERE.
It’s been a fun busy couple of weekends!!
I just wanted to share with you a few photos from the awesome crafting events that I’ve recently done at the MOCHA and the Children’s Creativity Museum.
It was a lot of fun teaching these girls, boys, moms, dads, and grandparents how to make the Badge and Ribbon Medallions from my book. I think everyone had a really good time. Everyone walked away with the feeling of accomplishment and an awesome pat-on-the-back memento to showcase your crafting prowess.
